Avast For Mac Web Shield

Avast Mac Security offers three shields, on-demand scanning and WebRep clients which are automatically (optionally) installed to Safari, Chrome and Firefox browsers. Our Web Shield and Mail Shield combine to check the vast majority of incoming data from the Internet, while File Shield scans all programs stored and executed from your hard drive. Disable (turn off, stop) Avast antivirus 2018 completely or temporarily in 3 simple steps. Deactivate or pause Web Shield, File Shield, Mail Shield or Behavior Shield on Windows 10/8.1/7 or Mac OS X. Avast Security Pro for Mac – Is it worthy to pay extra? Besides the free version of Mac antivirus, there is also a premium one called Avast Security Pro for Mac.The pro version offers two extra features. Web Shield is an additional layer of active protection in Avast Antivirus. It scans data that is transferred when you browse the internet in real-time to prevent malware, such as malicious scripts, from being downloaded and run on your PC. Avast Free Mac Security - How it works. The Mail shield and the Web shield allow exclusions. Connections to hosts on the exclusion list pass without being scanned. Avast Free Antivirus raises the bar on security with real-time protection, intelligent threat-detection, and added security for your network, passwords, and browser. Easy to install and easy to use, no other free antivirus comes close.

I came from Intego, Kaspersky, Norton, SOPHOS Pro and changed to Avast, because of its superior detection of virii.
To first of all to answer the ever re-appearing question 'I have a Mac, do I really need antivirus?': Yes, you do. It does not need to be a virus that affects OS X, you could inadvertendly cause an infection of others by you forwarding or sharing infected files. If you are in business and infect your customers, that is the sure way out of business.
I do not share the experience of any slow-downs by Avast at all. To the contrary, the use of cycles of Avast seems to be much less than other antivirus I have used over the years.
Apart from the ransomware shield and webshield, I particularly appreciate the e-mail shield of Avast, as we have been subject to a barrage of phishing and malware loaded e-mails, which all other antivirus did not detect. While I am certainly capable of identifying problematic e-mails, my associates may not. DIY also consumes precious time.
I don't share the experience of excessive invasiveness by Avast. In fact, I experience no invasiveness at all.
At the time of this writing, based on my experience, Avast antivirus is the best for Mac, in my opinion.

Hi,
I'm on a Mac. When I enable the Web Shield with this new version of AVG AntiVirus, Firefox doesn't work and give me the 'SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER' error. When I disable the web shield, Firefox works.
Google Chrome is working when the web shield is on.
Thanks.

Hello, Rom.
I regret to hear about the inconvenience this may have caused to you. This issue is most likely caused because we are adding AVG certificate into the Firefox. Please follow the steps below to resolve the issue.
1. Close the Firefox app completely.
2. Run the following command in the terminal: '/Library/Application Support/AVGAntivirus/hub/usermodules/020_ cert.sh ' start
3. Restart the computer.
Now verify your issue with AVG Web Shield enabled.

If the issue persist, we would request you to try and add the AVG certificate to Firefox manually to resolve the issue.
To start with, it is necessary to obtain a copy of the certificate.
This can be found with Keychain Access with Keychain 'login' and category 'Certificates'. Search for 'avg'. You should find 'AVG trusted CA'. Select it and export it from the menu bar under 'File' then 'Export Items...'. Save it somewhere accessible.
Now, the certificate needs to be added to Firefox's certificate manager.
Open Firefox's Preferences > Privacy & Security tab. Scroll down to Security > Certificates. Open 'View Certificates...'. Click on 'Authorities' then 'Import...'. Import 'AVG trusted CA' and trust it to 'identify websites'. You can select 'identify mail users' if you want.
