Hi, there, I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this: I recently changed my hard drive, as my old one was dying. Now, after I formatted, etc., & ran avast quick scan, the scans have been taking about 1 & 1/2 hrs, & scanning approx.
- Avira’s Free Antivirus for Mac delivers “first-rate protection for free.” It provides a great level of protection against all kinds of online threats, including viruses, rootkits, spyware, and adware, but doesn’t offer a lot of extra utility tools like its free Windows counterpart.
- Avast Free Mac Security provides very good antivirus protection for free, and it throws in email scanning on top. Unfortunately, this software doesn't offer any other perks that you can't find.

So I downloaded AVAST today as I heard it was a good antivirus software and wanted to try it out. I started a scan today about 2 hours ago and while it is scanning different files every few seconds it is still at 0% and is incredibly slow. At this rate it could take 24 hours to complete..

Why is it so slow? I know my processor isn't the best but this is ridiculous. I usually use Microsoft Security Essentials and that would have a full system scan finished by now.
UPDATE: It's finished now, I left my PC to go do something else about 2 hours ago and it has since finished. I guess nothing is wrong but it does still seem unusually slow.
